The Earth Has Been Cleansed …
First the globe was
visited by tremendous natural disasters, followed by a biological attack
which unleashed a devastating flu that killed millions. Finally, the
earth's remaining numbers were devastated by an apocalyptic world war.
Surviving countries—for the most part, those untouched by nuclear
warfare—closed their borders and the few remaining people begin to
rebuild. And, with technology all but gone, something new and
fascinating began to flourish after lying dormant for thousands of
years.
It is into this new world that Vada Lee, a child of the
streets in Tucson, is born. She is given a second chance by her
caseworker, John Runninghorse, to go to a school for kids who are like
her. At age twelve, she arrives at the Chollo Ranch School and discovers
just how different her life will be when she learns more about these
special gifts including her ability to communicate with animals and the
power to heal.
As she matures, she senses that her destiny is to use this
gift to defeat a growing evil in the east. She also learns that her
powers affect others around her, including Jake O'Neil, the son of the
co-owner of the school where they reside. Their relationship, initially
entwined with jealousy and hate, eventually turns to love and a bond is
formed as they realize they've shared past lives going back thousands of
years.
Help and support come to Vada and Jake from two ex-Marines,
wolves, and a powerful Medicine woman. They must not only master their
growing powers, but must come to terms with the plans that destiny has
in store for them.
